The Pinnacles

The Pinnacles are located in Nambung National Park, along the west coast of Australia. They are 245 km from Perth, in the north direction. The closest main town is Cervantes. The Pinnacles are 17 km from Cervantes in the south-east direction.

The Pinnacles are soft, white, chalky rocks from a formation of seashells. The shells were broken down into tiny parts and then into lime rich sands. So the sands were carried to form high mobile dunes. The Pinnacles were formed from the sand, by the rain gluing them together. Then it transforms into a limestone. Old plants make a hard layer above the limestone. The plants die and the wind blows away the sand from the stone the Pinnacles emerge.

It is environmentally significant because it is a natural site and it also has economic significance because tourists pay to see the Pinnacles.
